John Haeuser’s parents were from New Orleans, and his father was a member of the U.S. Navy. As a child, John attended school all over the country eventually receiving his B.A. and M.A. from Georgetown University and A.B.D. from U.C. Davis. Over the years, he has taught English, U.S. history, and elementary math. John has a beautiful wife, four children, and 19 grandchildren, five of whom attend Kolbe-Trinity.
Blaise Hockel began his education in English literature through the University of California, Santa Cruz and completed his English Bachelor of the Arts at Benedictine College. His focuses were on the Ancient Greeks and the Golden Age of English Literature. Aside from being oldest of a family of seven and having a particular fondness for fishing, Lord Hockel was married to Lady Kristen Hockel and began teaching literature at Kolbe Academy and Trinity Preparatory School in August of 2015.
I grew up on the SF peninsula and began college as a math major at Santa Clara University in 1970, but switched majors, getting a B.A. in English in 1974. I always had a desire to teach elementary school, but put it on the back burner when I married civil engineer, Rod Thoits in 1979. We settled in family-friendly Fremont, CA in 1986, where we raised and homeschooled our children for eleven years. We relocated to Napa in 1997 to enroll our children in Trinity and avail ourselves of an authentically Catholic community in the wine country. All of our seven children have attended either Trinity Prep or Kolbe/Trinity. In 2009, a year after Kolbe and Trinity merged, I began to teach 7th grade math. Since then we've seen our sixth child graduate and have one remaining in 12th grade (Joe). This is my 8th year of teaching and I absolutely love the classical education philosophy, the teaching environment, the teachers, staff and especially the experience of helping 7th graders learn pre-algebra!
