St. Agatha, Virgin & Martyr

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

February is here! The shortest month of the year is upon us and before you know it, we’ll have completed second trimester exams and entered into the Season of Lent. As usual, there will be a lot going on!

We had a wonderful Catholic Schools/School Choice week complete with an all-school movie, visit from Bishop Vasa, and all-school capture the flag. I am so proud of how all the students conducted themselves which is a testament to the teachers, you, the parents, and most importantly, the students themselves. I know I seem to say this every year, but the faculty and staff were in universal agreement that this was thesmoothest Catholic Schools/School Choice Week ever!

Congratulations to our Super Bowl squares winners for the first and second quarters: the DeCicco family and the Kolbe-Trinity Youth Group who each won $100. Our big winner was Coach Ken Franklin who not only won the 3rd quarter but also the final score for a grand total of $250Even more impressive, was that he donated all his winnings back to the school.  Thanks, Coach!

A big thank you to BBQ Chef Bob Quinn, who with help from Ken Dumars, Ricardo & Maria Cuevas, and (of course, Mary Quinn), prepared and sold over 30 tri-tip dinners on Super Bowl Sunday!

On behalf of AD Jim Klaczak, thank you for buying squares and dinner to support our sports programs!

I also wanted to take this opportunity to inform and/or remind all the families about the importance of safety during drop-off and pick-up.

Morning Drop-Off – If you are the lead car, please be sure to pull all the way forward behind Miss Wilson’s car when you are dropping off your children. If you are trailing other cars, please wait to drop off your children until you are roughly parallel with the east-west sidewalk by the black board. This will prevent people from dropping off students in different spots which has recently almost led to collisions between cars or even worse, between cars and students. Please do NOT drop off students underneath the carport in near the front of the office. If you are walking your children to class, please be sure to keep them near you as you walk through the parking lot and remain vigilant.

Afternoon Pick-Up – The same procedure follows for pick-up. Please only use the carport near the front office when it is raining and traffic cones are directing you that way. Always pull forward as far as possible underneath the carport to pick up.

Thank you for your cooperation and concern for the safety of all!

Upcoming School Events

Feb 5 – Mark Brumley Presents on the Gospel of Mark – Part II – 7:00 P.M,

From Mark Brumley, President of Ignatius Press…

The Gospel of St. Mark is an often misunderstood Gospel. I hope to make it better understood.

This is really an introductory course—a getting acquainted with the main themes of St. Mark’s Gospel.

The sessions will be held at Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep2055 Redwood Rd, Napa, CA 94558.

People are free to use whatever translation of the Bible they like, but I will be using the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition. I will occasionally refer to the New American Bible translation as well. I will also refer to the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible booklet on the Gospel of Mark, which features the biblical text, as well as commentary and notes by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. It’s available from Ignatius Press
here

In addition to the great commentary and notes, this booklet features a wide margin for note-taking.

Cost: There is no charge but a free-will offering will be encouraged to help support Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep.

Feb. 7 – Jump Rope for Heart Kick-Off – TK-8 (2:00 – 2:45)

Once again, Kolbe-Trinity will be assisting the American Heart Association by participating in Jump Rope for Heart.  This Thursday, all students in grades TK-8 will be receiving a packet explaining the program. Similar to the Jog-a-Thon, students will be collecting flat rate and per-jump pledges from family and friends. All proceeds will go to benefit the American Heart Association. Thank you for your generosity!

Floor Lamp Needed for 5/6 Class

Mrs. Fidler is looking for a floor lamp to brighten up her 5/6 classroom. If anyone has one they are looking to get rid of, please see her. Thanks!

Prayer Requests

I received a prayer request from Colleen Roche whose sister-in-law, Sara Roche, will be undergoing a very risky heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota next week. Please keep her and the Roche family in your prayers.

Also continue to pray for Tiffany Power, cousin of Joan Andrego, who is pregnant with twins at 28 weeks and is suffering from preeclampsia and for the health of Nancy Maxson, grandmother of many Kolbe-Trinity graduates.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
