Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of the Unborn

Sts. Vincent & Anastasius, Martyrs(Traditional Calendar)

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

Today we solemnly remembered the millions of innocents lives slaughtered in the forty-six years since the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. Our chaplain, Fr. Gary Sumpter, offered up a Votive Mass of Peace and Justice to pray for those victims and their families, to ask God’s protection against future injustice, and to give comfort and support to women facing difficult pregnancies. One way in which I encouraged all of the students to support life was to donate to Alpha Crisis Pregnancy Clinic here in Napa. We will be collecting money all week in the office in the giant baby bottle, and will deliver the proceeds to them next week. Please be generous.

Last Tuesday we had our first Bottle Rock RV parking fundraiser meeting. Thank you to Susanne Madigan-HeunMary QuinnEric Muth, Sophia Castańeda, Maria Cuevas, and chairwoman Jenny Alba for getting the ball rolling. In the next month, we will be ramping up our efforts to coordinate support for what we hope to be a very profitable (always greatly needed!) fundraiser. Please check your e-mail on a daily basis for reminders.

A big thank you to maintenance supervisor Sean Warner who coordinated with yours truly, Beto Benitez, and Christina Uribe to get the oil changed on the van, some much needed brush trimming, and a deep-clean of the kitchen last Saturday at our monthly workday. Thank you also to Sean for installing a security camera in the office and the hall, and to Tommy Warner for helping out.

Jan. 22 – Mark Brumley Presents on the Gospel of Mark – Part I – 7:00 P.M,

From Mark Brumley, President of Ignatius Press…

The Gospel of St. Mark is an often misunderstood Gospel. I hope to make it better understood.

The format for the presentations is as follows. First, a half-hour or so overview of the week’s material based on a close reading of the text and expositional teaching. Second, a relatively freewheeling discussion of the reading and the presentation. The presentations will run from 7 PM-8 PM.

This is really an introductory course—a getting acquainted with the main themes of St. Mark’s Gospel.

Here is an outline of the course:

Jan 22    Getting Started with the Gospel of St. Mark: Introduction and the Prologue (Mk 1:1-15)

Jan 29    The Public Ministry of Jesus begins (Mk 1:16-6:56)

Feb 5     The Public Ministry of Jesus heads toward its climax (Mk 7:1-8:31)
Feb 12   The Passion of the Christ, Part 1: The Suffering Messiah and the beginning of Passion Week (Mk 8:31-13:37)

Feb 19   The Passion of the Christ, Part 2: The Last Supper, the Trials, and the Crucifixion of Jesus (Mk 13:37-15:47)
Feb 25   The Resurrection of Jesus and the Easter Narratives (Mk 16:1-20)

The sessions will be held at Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep2055 Redwood Rd, Napa, CA 94558.

People are free to use whatever translation of the Bible they like, but I will be using the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition. I will occasionally refer to the New American Bible translation as well. I will also refer to the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible booklet on the Gospel of Mark, which features the biblical text, as well as commentary and notes by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. It’s available from Ignatius Press here

In addition to the great commentary and notes, this booklet features a wide margin for note-taking.

Cost: There is no charge but a free-will offering will be encouraged to help support Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep.

Please attend and forward this email to others you think would be interested in attending.
