Pope St. Damasus I

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of one of the founders of Kolbe Academy, Mr. Francis Crotty. Francis was instrumental in founding Kolbe Academy in 1980 and served as its first administrator for almost twenty years. He died peacefully yesterday (Monday) after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. We are truly grateful for his contribution to Catholic education, his role in the establishment of the traditional Latin Mass at Holy Family Mission in Rutherford, and for the legacy that he has left us here at Kolbe-Trinity. May he rest in peace. Funeral details can be found later on this memo.

Thank you to the 5-6 grade class, under the direction of Laura Fidler, for another outstanding job in assisting the San Francisco Opera Company in their presentation of Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love” last Wednesday.

Dec. 14 – Funeral Mass for Francis Crotty – 11:00 A.M. @ St. Apollinaris -Movie Night – 6:00 P.M. – “It’s a Wonderful Life”

Francis Crotty’s funeral Mass us this Friday morning, Dec. 14th, at St. Apollinaris Parish at 11:00 A.M. I know that members of his family who dedicated decades of service to the school would greatly appreciate a strong showing from the Kolbe-Trinity parents and students.

Students in grades 7-12 will be dismissed from class to walk over to the church accompanied by their teachers and will be issued permission slips for you to sign and return no later than Thursday, Dec. 13th. Parents of students in grades TK-6 are encouraged to pick up their children at 10:45 A.M. to bring them to Mass and then return them to school. There will be no regular morning school Mass. Morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal remain at the usual time.

Our December movie night will feature the annual Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Stewart, directed by Frank Capra. This is not simply a feel-good Christmas classic, but contains layers of depth that often go unnoticed with casual viewing. We will begin the film at a special earlier time of 6:00 P.M. to facilitate a brief discussion of the film afterwards.  Soda, popcorn, and beer (to those of age) will be provided. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
