Nov. 13, 2018

St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, Virgin

St. Didacus, Confessor (Traditional Calendar)

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

Well….here we go again! School was cancelled yesterday and today due to hazardous air quality in the “Unhealthy for All Groups” range. Due to the incredibly fluid situation that currently exists, please keep checking your e-mail on a regular basis to receive updates as the Camp Fire continues to burn. We apologize for any and all inconvenience this has caused and will continue to cause going forward. Due to the safety and health of children being of paramount concern, we must act out of an abundance of caution.

Thanks to all the families who showed up to attend last Tuesday’s parents’ guild and fundraising meeting where we discussed ways in which we can improve our successful international food festival fundraiser. Susanne Madigan-Heun and Anna Hickey were very pleased with the turnout and enthusiasm, particularly from our newer families, the largest segment of our community that was in attendance. The success of this school depends on your involvement!

Final exams came and went and teachers are in the process of finalizing their grades. Thank you for your cooperation to help ensure the best possible results on final exams. Report cards will be sent out and will arrive over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Thank you to all Mary Quinn and Denise Davis for spearheading the Box of Joy project over the past weekend to provide gifts for children in third-world countries. Thank you also to the Martinez, Warner, Muth, Bakh, Haeuser, Silva, Say, Buyarski, Rono, and Bertolini families for their assistance and donations.

Upcoming School Events

Nov. 13 – Crab Feed Fundraiser Meeting – 7:00 P.M.

As announced at last week’s parents’ guild meeting and international food fundraiser debrief, there will be very important fundraising meetingto discuss and plan a crab/seafood feed fundraiser in St. Helena. This will be our second of three parent-driven fundraisers this year which will take place in either January or February. Please join us in the hall at 7:00 P.M.

Nov. 14 –Christmas Wreath Sales Due!

Last year, your children netted over $6,000 in Christmas wreath sales to benefit our

school with only 86 students. Now with 117 students, we have no excuse not to

substantially exceed that number. Congratulations to Joe Quinn, Ivan Warner, and Gianna Bertolini who have all sold at least 20 Christmas wreaths each! As I

often remind your children, they are our best representatives and salespeople and we depend on their hard work as well to keep this institution running. This is the first of two student-driven fundraisers this year and we are counting on it to be a fantastic success. This can only happen with your children’s help. There is only one evening left to sell wreaths since all of our orders must be submitted tomorrow (Wednesday), Nov. 14th.

Nov. 17 (SA) Workday 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. –

Crusader Cooking Class! – 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.- See Attached Flyer!

This coming Saturday will be a busy day at the school. Our monthly Saturday workday will take place from 8:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M. We have a number of items that need attention, so please make time to attend, especially given the very small turnout last month. An updated maintenance list will be sent out later this week.

Interested in honing your baking skills in time for the holiday season? Then learn from master bakers Janet Bakh and Amy Spain and help our school in the process! Cooking class will take place in the kitchen this Saturday from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. and the cost is $50 per person. See the attached flyer for more details. We’ll need to have a minimum of 10 people sign up to make this happen, so if you are interested please notify Janet Bakh at jbakh@yahoo.com no later than 8:00 A.M. this Friday.

Important Reminders

Holy Souls Mass Intentions for November

Since we are in the month of November in which the Church reminds us of our important role in praying for the souls of the faithful departed, we will once again be taking written names of your family and friends to include on the altar this month to be prayed for in all Masses celebrated at the school. Attached are two forms: one in English and one in Spanish for you to fill out and return to the office. Thank you for your prayers for the holy souls in Purgatory.

Prayer Requests

Please continue to keep Chuck Rowles and his entire extended family in your prayers so that he will be ultimately cured of his stage-4 colon cancer, and that he can return to enjoying a full and active life with his family and friends. Please continue to pray the St. Peregrine Novena found below as well.
