Memorials of St. John Leonardi & Sts. Denis & Comapanions

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

I am happy to announce that we have raised almost $30,000 in our annual appeal, of which $500 will be matched by Mr. Steven Silvagni due to two donations totaling $500 from within our school community. Mr. Silvagni still has $2,000 left to match so now is the time to give! Next week, we will need assistance from parents to stuff envelopes for a second of three rounds of appeals. More information to follow on that.

Our parents’ guild meeting last Wednesday was VERY well-attended. Thanks to Sophia Castańeda for providing the agenda, to Anna Hickey for taking time to rally the parents for our upcoming Oct. 14th fundraiser, and to Yuri Arellano, Mike and Adriana Mautner, Carlos Uribe, Ernesto Martinez, Alejandro and Ana Montiel, Yul Vieyra, Melissa Buyarksi, Sonia Campos-Balderas, Nabor Andrade, Laura Garcia, Ramiro Cendejas, Julio & Susana Rodriguez, and Bob and Mary Quinn for taking time out of their evening to attend.

The entire student body joined Bishop Robert Vasa and the rest of the diocesan schools via Facebook live for a rosary last Friday in anticipation of Sunday’s feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. It was great to also see an improved turnout for our First Friday school Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas the same day.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 10th will be a day-off of school for students in grades 9 & 12 due to the PSAT which the 10-11 grade students will take in the morning. We are also pleased to announce that Fr. High school students should come prepared to depart at 1:00 P.M. and will return the next day. Further details will be communicated no later than this Friday.  Parent-teacher conferences will also begin at 3:00 P.M. that day and will continue through Friday. The final revised schedule is attached to this memo.

Oct. 12 – Friday Movie Night – “Unbreakable” @ 7:00 P.M.

Please join us for popcorn, soda, and (to those of age), beer this Friday night at 7:00 P.M. for the 2000 film, Unbreakable, directed by M. Knight Shyamalan. This is one of the first modern Super Hero films. David Dunn's (Bruce Willis) family is falling apart as he struggles with purpose, and depression. After a tragic accident he learns of his abilities and finds new meaning in his life. This new plan revitalizes him, and those around him, giving him a path and an ultimate goal: helping those in need.
