Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

The Seven Holy Brothers, Martyrs - Sts. Rufina & Segunda, Virgins-Martyrs (Traditional Calendar)

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

It’s always nice to return from vacation to good news: not just good news, but great news!

I am pleased to announce that as of June 29, 2018, Kolbe-Academy & Trinity Prep has been approved for initial accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Final accreditation will be completed following a three-year process including a more extensive self-study and multiple-day visit from both WASC and WCEA (Western Catholic Education Association). Thank you to all of the board members, faculty, staff, parents, and students for their work and cooperation to reach this milestone.

I also received some wonderful news regarding a fundraising event held on behalf of the school by Andy and Marissa Amador’s Madorom Foundation this past Saturday, July 9th. Initial results show the event raised over $76,000 for the school, $18,000 of which is earmarked for the paving of the front driveway.  On behalf of the entire school community, I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to Andy and Marissa for the tremendous generosity of their time, talent, and treasure. May God continue to bless you both for your years of generous service. A number of other people from the school were also involved and I will give credit to them in next week’s memo once I determine who they are and what they did to contribute.

Thank you to our new maintenance supervisor and board member, Sean Warner, for supervising and working our first two July workdays on July 6th and 7th.Sean was able to disassemble the old batting cage on Friday and, with the help of Sonia, Wyatt, and Whitney Campos-Balderas and new parents and studentsRamiro, and Rosalba Cendejas and their son and daughter Ramiro Jr. and Crystal Cendejas for helping to trim trees and bushes, begin the process of removing the chain-link fence in the gravel parking lot, began the process of removing panels on the wooden storage sheds, and began raking bark way from the planned play-structure area in the TK yard.  Your help is greatly appreciated and truly important to our continued improvement of the appearance of our campus.

A big thank you also to Juan Castańeda, with assistance from Isidro Rodriguez, in trimming back the bushes on the west side of the main building. It was a lot of work, but it looks great!

Upcoming School Events

July 14 (SA) – Saturday Workday – 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

This coming Saturday, July 14th we will be having another workday from 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. headed up by a foreman to be named later. We have the following items on the agenda for completion:

  • Trees cut along the east fence line of the gravel parking lot.
  • Other half of play structure brought into the T/K play area and assembled (brown paper bag of hardware are above cabinets in T/K room).
  • A/C lines secured outside of T/K.
  • Replace or repair lattice panels around base of modules.
  • Dirt leveled(10’x20’), weed barrier re-laid, and bark replaced in T/K play area.

In order to complete the aforementioned tasks, we will need the following:

  • Chainsaws and chainsaw operators to cut tree’s in the gravel parking lot, along with the three loquat trees.
  • A pole saw to trim all of the low hanging branches of all the trees on the school property.
  • Pruning shears, clippers, loppers.
  • A farm jack to remove chain link fence posts.
  • Somebody to purchase 8-2’x8’ lattice panels for the modules.
  • Somebody to purchase 4- 1-1/8” Unistrut insulated clamps for securing the hanging A/C lines ousted of T/K room.

If you can assist with any of these, please e-mail Sean Warner at maintenance@kolbetrinity.org to let him know that you are coming.
