Tuesday of the First Week of Lent

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

I hope you and your family were able to catch your breath a bit over the President’s Day extended weekend. An important reminder that second trimester exams begin next Monday, Feb. 26th and will last until Thursday, March 1st. Final exams should only be major causes for stress and anxiety if the student has not done his/her due diligence in terms of consistently attending classes, doing assigned homework in a timely fashion, etc…. Most final exams, even in the upper grades, compose less than 25 percent of the total grade. While the final exam is an important assessment of cumulative knowledge, it does not usually impact the final grade in a major way – positively or negatively. Therefore, students who have performed very well throughout the trimester and expecting a poor final exam to ruin their final grade should find some consolation. Conversely, students who have performed very poorly throughout the second trimester and hope to cram for final exams in the hopes of significantly bossing their grade will often be disappointed in their final grade. With that being said, it certainly will moderately help their final grade by turning on their jets at the end and studying hard for their finals. In order to facilitate the best possible result of final exams, we have made 3 out of the 4 days a minimum day schedule with a special 12:15 dismissal. Please assist us in ensuring the best possible exam week for your child(ren) by providing plenty of quiet time and space in your home for studying.

Week in Review (Feb. 12- Feb. 17)

Congratulations to our high school Trinity Prep Crusaders who finished up their basketball season last Tuesday, February 13th, which was also Senior Night. Watch your inbox for a sports bulletin covering this event in the near future.

Thank you to Hallie Immen and the student government for organizing an all-school rosary-making project on the afternoon of Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14th. It was a wonderful and meaningful way to have the entire school begin their Lenten journey.

Some people may have thought we were crazy last year to set a fundraising goal of $20,000 for the Jog-a-Thon, but we all pulled together and made it happen. This year, we’re aiming for $25,000! Last Thursday, Feb. 15thwith help from Toni Williams and Mary Quinn, we kicked off our Jog-a-Thon fundraiser and gave students and classes multiple incentives to help reach this goal. Mr. Duncan and myself have promised to come to school dressed in costumes chosen by the students if we reach our goal……so let’s raise $25,000!

Upcoming Community Events

Date Night @ St. Apollinaris – February 23 – 7:00 P.M.

Just a reminder that the next Date Night is this Friday, the 23rd.  We will be in the Youth Room at 7:00 as usual however we will delay the start of the program until7:40 so that anyone desiring to attend the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 can do so and still make Date Night.  You could make it a complete St. A's evening by attending the meager meal at 6:00, observe Stations of the Cross at 7:00 and top it off with Date Night at 7:40!

We continue with Familiaris Consortio, study sessions 6 and 7 from "A Call to Families" - "Family Become What You Are" (Articles 17-27 in FC).  Child care is available as usual but we do appreciate an RSVP so we can be prepared for the number.

Have a blessed first week of Lent and we look forward to seeing you Friday night!

We Still Need Your Wine Donations!

Thank you to Mary Quinn, Debbie Brumley, Joan Andrego, Lorena Herrera, Denise Davis, Susanne Heun, David Hill, Art Rono, and Laura Fidler who have already generously donated wine. We still need more bottles of wine (ESPECIALLY WHITE WINE) for our instant wine cellar raffle (value of $20 and up) for our upcoming Casino Night Fundraiser on Saturday, April 21st. Please be generous as this is our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year and we need it to be a success. And to provide an extra incentive, you will receive a raffle ticket for every bottle donated for a $100 gift card towards a stay or spa treatment at the resort at the Indian Springs Resort and Spa in Calistoga. The more you donate, the better chance you have to win!

Prayer Requests

Please continue to keep Chuck Rowles and his entire extended family in your prayers so that he will be ultimately cured of his stage-4 colon cancer, and that he can return to enjoying a full and active life with his family and friends. Chuck’s son, Chris, posts updates on the websites listed below. Please continue to pray the St. Peregrine Novena found below as well.
