Mardi Gras! (Fat Tuesday)

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

The blessed season of Lent begins tomorrow. Please join us for Ash Wednesday Mass at the usual time and for Stations of the Cross every Friday of Lent (with exception of March 2) @ 2:35 P.M. as we pray and meditate on the Passion and Death of Our Lord. May God grant to you and your family a truly fulfilling and life-changing Lent.

Week in Review (Feb. 4- Feb. 10)

A big thank you to Bob Quinn for assisting Jim Klaczak in hosting our “unofficial”
Super Bowl Party
on Sunday, Feb. 4th. Our Super Bowl squares raised over $500 for the school. Thank you for your support and congratulations to student J.J. Castañeda who won $75!

We were truly honored to be visited by Fr. Christopher Crotty, (Kolbe Academy -Class of 1986) who spent Tuesday morning, Feb. 6th giving a catechesis to the entire student body about the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy followed up by a crash course on liturgical singing with the high school choir. This was all done in preparation for Fr. Christopher’s celebration of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom on Wednesday, Feb. 7th. We were very blessed to have a number of parents in attendance as well as Mr. and Mrs. Francis Crotty, one of the founders of Kolbe Academy in 1980, and parents of Fr. Christopher. It was truly a blessed day and we hope to make Fr. Christopher’s celebration of the Divine Liturgy a yearly tradition. Thank you so much to Fr. Christopher for being so generous with his time and celebrating this ancient and beautiful liturgy.

Congratulations to our short-handed high-school girls basketball team who defeated Alpha Charter on the road last Friday, Feb. 9th with only five players! Our short-handed boys fought hard, but came up short. We are very proud of the effort of both teams. Congratulations also to our much-improved 7-8 grade girls basketball team under head coach David Hill who lost to St. Apollinaris onSaturday, Feb. 10th. They gave it their best and their offense has noticeably improved. Catch them soon before the season ends!

Upcoming School Events!

Feb. 13 - HS Girls & Boys Basketball Home Game vs. Leroy Greene (Senior Night) – 6:00/7:30 P.M.

Come tonight for the last games of the high school basketball season as the Trinity Prep Crusaders host Leroy Greene with our young ladies beginning at 6:00 P.M. followed by our young men at 7:30 P.M. Tonight is also senior night so we will also be honoring our seniors who will be playing their last basketball game for Trinity Prep, as well as their parents. Tonight’s game is a “white-out” so be sure to come decked out in as much white as possible and prepare to explode in cheers after both our ladies and gentlemen score their first basket.

Feb. 15 – Jog-a-Thon Kickoff Rally – 2:40 P.M.

Remember how successful Jog-a-Thon was last year? We raised over $20,000! We also have been on a roll since then in terms of fundraising beginning with the most successful Christmas wreaths fundraiser in school history and the wildly-successful Thanksgiving Appeal which netted over $75,000.

On Thursday, Feb. 15th, we will kick-off our annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser at 2:40 P.M. and we are going to try and raise $25,000! Almost nobody thought we could raise $20,000 last year, but we did! And that’s we we’re raising the bar yet again. Our students are our best salespeople and I am confident that if we all pull together, we can make it happen!

Feb. 20 – James Bogowith Dinner & Lecture – 5:00 P.M. – ONE NIGHT ONLY!

Mr. James Bogowith who taught at Kolbe Academy from 1987-1991 will be visiting Napa for the first time in almost 27 years and would love to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones. OnTuesday evening, Feb. 20th, Mr. Bogowith, along with his wife Lynn, will be here beginning at 5:00 P.M. to receive guests. Following dinner, Lynn will inform everyone about the events in the Bogowith family over the last 27 years, followed by a lecture by Jim entitled “Before the Passion: The Epic Pro-Life Nature of the Gospel of Matthew”. If you wish to attend, please contact Maria in the office (707-258-9030 – office@kolbetrinity.org to RSVP by 4:00 P.Mon Friday, February 16th

News and Updates

We Still Need Your Wine Donations!

Thank you to Mary Quinn, Debbie Brumley, Joan Andrego, Lorena Herrera, Denise Davis, Susanne Heun, and David Hill who have already generously donated wine. We still need more bottles of wine (ESPECIALLY WHITE WINE) for our instant wine cellar raffle (value of $20 and up) for our upcoming Casino Night Fundraiser on Saturday, April 21st. Please be generous as this is our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year and we need it to be a success. And to provide an extra incentive, you will receive a raffle ticket for every bottle donated for a $100 gift card towards a stay or spa treatment at the resort at the Indian Springs Resort and Spa in Calistoga. The more you donate, the better chance you have to win!

Prayer Requests

Please continue to keep Chuck Rowles and his entire extended family in your prayers so that he will be ultimately cured of his stage-4 colon cancer, and that he can return to enjoying a full and active life with his family and friends. Chuck’s son, Chris, posts updates on the websites listed below. Please continue to pray the St. Peregrine Novena found below as well.
