Dear Friends of Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep,
I hope this letter finds you well as we are about to enter this beautiful Advent season. Given that Advent is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year in preparation for the birth of our Lord, it gives us cause to reflect, as we near the end of the Extraordinary Year of Mercy, on God’s abundant mercy and opportunity to begin our spiritual lives anew. Speaking of new beginnings, I have a very important and exciting opportunity to share with you.
Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep has existed on the grounds of 2055 Redwood Road in Napa since 1995 (when Trinity Grammar and Prep first opened its doors) and we have been paying a rather substantial monthly rent on the property that is currently owned by a local community church. Some of you may already know that we are currently in an agreement to purchase the property at a very reasonable price. Due to the generosity of multiple donors, we are within striking distance of coming up with the down payment of one million dollars due on December 30th!
Back in 1980, the lay founders of Kolbe Academy laid the groundwork for a revolution in Catholic education, a movement that has gathered incredible momentum in recent years. All across America, in response to growing secularization in public schools, adoption of the Common Core, and the saturating bombardment of technology in the classroom, demand for a new alternative is rising and to meet this demand, Catholic classical schools are either sprouting up in new locations or reinvigorating existing institutions.
But Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep can only continue to operate and begin to thrive with the stability that owning a piece of property brings. Major demographic changes in the Napa Valley make operating our school more difficult than ever. The continuing exodus of working class families from the area, a dramatic increase in secular residents, diminishing numbers in the school-age Catholic population, and a substantial increase in the Latino Catholic population all present varied challenges and unique opportunities. Since we work to keep our tuition affordable to families of all races and economic levels, every year is a financial challange. Owning our own school facility and being rent free will make a significant difference in our ability to continue to offer classical liberal-arts education in a traditional Catholic framework.
We need your assistance, now more than ever. Since 2013, Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep has partnered with The Charitable Exchange to multiply the generous donations of our supporters and benefactors. In celebration of “Giving Tuesday” on November 29th, The Charitable Exchange will double your contributions to our school! This means that every dollar donated will be fully matched beginning on Monday, November 21st through Tuesday, November. 29th. As a result, we are asking you to prayerfully consider donating to close the gap for the $1 million needed to purchase the property and help us achieve our dream of owning our school property and being rent free.
But wait, there’s more! Our good friends at Kolbe Academy Home School are going to donate the first $5,000 and will match up to $10,000 in additional donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis. So, for $10,000 donated, Kolbe-Trinity will receive $30,000—$10,000 from our donors and $10,000 each from The Charitable Exchange and Kolbe Academy Home School!
To make a contribution, go to the Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep section on The Charitable Exchange’s website: https://tce.webconnex.com/kolbe-academy-and-trinity-prep. If you are unable to donate online, please make a donation to The Charitable Exchange, P.O. Box 422, Yardley, PA 19067 and write “Kolbe-Trinity” in the check memo.
If you cannot afford to donate, we always appreciate the most powerful donation, your prayers, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary whose upcoming feasts of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe continually remind us of her love for all of us. Thank you in advance for your generosity and prayerful support. May God richly bless you and your family this Christmas!
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
John Bertolini Headmaster
P.S. Thank you again for your generosity. Due to your prayers and financial support, we have kept our doors open and offered a quality education to many people in northern California for over thirty-six years. I pray and hope that you will want to be part of this new and exciting phase of our development.
