Aug 19 – First Day of School

June 22, 2020

St. Paulinus of Nola, Bishop/ Sts. John Fisher & Thomas More, Martytrs

With two months to go until we hope to re-open as usual on August 19, we have a projected enrollment of 137 students next year, an increase of 33 from last year. Although we are very excited about our increased enrollment, the situation with COVID-19 and the need for more physical distancing inside classrooms and around the campus adds another complication. Fortunately, we have enough room (for now) on our campus, but it will require a fair amount of work to clean out classrooms, put materials into storage, even moving some grades to different classrooms, in order to properly balance concerns over health with the reality of continuing to educate in the most traditional and normal fashion. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to move ahead with a very busy summer.

Agape Program Update!

The Agape Program continues to serve our community.  Agape is helping with grocery needs for 150 Napa families every Wednesday between 5-7.  The need for help is so much so that the line for the open pantry started forming at noon, in extremely hot weather, last Wednesday.  If you can imagine people are showing up at noon for something that opens at 5.  Agape also continues to help with families afflicted with COVID-19.

Additional prayers needed for these families as the hot weather on Wednesdays seems to be a pattern.  It seems the Lord is allowing us to show additional love to these families as we make sure there are umbrellas, tents, and ice coolers with water.  The physical help has obviously risen as well in this regard.  If you can help on a Wednesday with just outside setup that would be wonderful.  The outside set up time is 10 am.

*If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to call the school or the numbers given of the Agape Team.  If you can help much help is needed.  Agape could use help with donations, checks made out to the school with Agape in the memo line, food or grocery donations dropped off at the school or physical help on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week.

Starting on July 1st the open food exchange will be going to every other week!  This is not because the need has been become less.  The need seems to have increased.  Going to every other week will help this program be able to last a bit longer in the following areas, funds, mitigating volunteer fatigue and allowing for more time to collect donations between each open distribution day.  The dates in July are the 1st, the 15th and the 29th.  More to come on this in the Agape Newsletter.

Thank you to Duncan Hickey who joined our usual crew last week.

Prayer Requests

Please continue to pray for one of our former teachers, Mr. Matt Badley, as the school where he was teaching in Virginia has announced its closure. Please keep him and his large family in your prayers.  Please continue to keep Jay Hipolito’s grandfather, Henry Ramirez, in your prayers as well as Margaret Crotty who is currently afflicted with cancer.

Thank you for your continued prayers for former Kolbe Academy student (and my classmate) Michael Arribage who is currently battling stage-4 kidney cancer. His treatment is moving in a very positive direction.  Please continue your prayers for Joy Gittings, grandmother of Kara Gittings, who is recovering from cancer treatment and for Bethany Pham, an 8-year girl battling cancer who is a student at St. Apollinaris Catholic School. Please continue to make time every evening to pray the Rosary for Our Lady’s intercession against the COVID-19 pandemic, and for John Carr who is attempting a full recovery from cancer.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
