Aug 19 – First Day of School

June 1, 2020

Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church

Monday of Pentecost Week (Traditional Calendar)

Although we are far from being back in the full swing of things, some normalcy is beginning to return to our lives beginning with the most important thing of all: the Sacrifice of the Mass. Despite the fact that we were not allowed to hold graduation ceremonies as planned on Friday, May 29thwe were able to have a families-only Baccalaureate Mass on the lawn at the school celebrated by our chaplain Fr. Gary Sumpter. A big thank you to Bob and Mary Quinn, Mike Gaffey, Everett Buyarksi, Eric Muth, and Anna Hickey for helping Mr. Hipolito, Mr. Duncan and myself to prepare the campus and provide the sound and Facebook live webcast (still available to watch on our Facebook page ) for this beautiful celebration.

Napa County Health and Human Services has given schools permission to reopen today, June 1st. Although our school year is over as planned, we will have a brief window of opening the campus for students to see their immediate classmates and teachers, safely distanced on the lawn and wearing masks. This will take place on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 9:00 A.M. – 2:45 P.M. Parents will receive an e-mail later today informing them our faculty training session today on health and safety protocols, along with the requirements for their children to attend tomorrow.

Finally, I ask for all of your prayers for our school and its community. Our faculty and staff will be spending the entire month of June evaluating our traditional classroom instructional curriculum, our more recent distance-learning curriculum, and continuing to follow developments to do our best to provide a safe, healthy, and as normal as possible return to school on August 19thGiven the need for additional personal protective equipment, reorganizing classrooms to prepare for anticipated social distancing, etc…., we certainly have our work cut out for us.

Agape Program Update!

Agape continues to help our school families and our neighbors who find themselves in difficult situations due to the shuttering of Napa Valley businesses.  While there is much hope as businesses slowly open in Napa it continues to have an extremely high unemployment rate.  The need has been larger each week.

If you are in need help, please do not hesitate to reach out.  If you can help, please do not hesitate to reach out.  Grocery help can be delivered to the school Mondays-Wednesday between 10am-2pm or by calling and scheduling a specific time.  Checks to support Agape can be sent to Kolbe Academy and Trinity Prep at 2055 Redwood Rd, Napa Ca 94558.  Please write Agape in the memo line of the check.

If you need support or you have employees in need of support, please come or send those in need to the school on Wednesdays. Our school families should arrive at 4 and line up at the double doors on the side of the school.  other families should line up in the main line between 5-7.  It is advisable to arrive early as realistically lines begin forming at 2:30.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for repose of the soul of Mr. Frank Bozzini, former high school boys and girls basketball coach in the early and mid 2000’s. I also received word from one of our former teachers, Mr. Matt Badley, that the school where he was teaching in Virginia is announcing its closure. Please keep him and his large family in your prayers.  Please continue to keep Jay Hipolito’s grandfather, Henry Ramirez, in your prayers as well as Margaret Crotty who is currently afflicted with cancer.

Thank you for your continued prayers for former Kolbe Academy student (and my classmate) Michael Arribage who is currently battling stage-4 kidney cancer. His treatment is moving in a very positive direction.  Please continue your prayers for Joy Gittings, grandmother of Kara Gittings, who is recovering from cancer treatment and for Bethany Pham, an 8-year girl battling cancer who is a student at St. Apollinaris Catholic School. Please continue to make time every evening to pray the Rosary for Our Lady’s intercession against the COVID-19 pandemic, and for John Carr who is attempting a full recovery from cancer.
