March 23, 2020

Monday of the 4th Week of Lent

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and Gov. Newson’s statewide shelter-in-place, all school-sponsoried activites will also be cancelled or postponed until a later date. K-6 teachers have prepared homework packets through April 9th and 5-12 grade teachers are now set up to teach online, thanks to our good friends at Kolbe Academcy Homeschool, Everett Buyarski and Janet Bakh, in particular.

Before this all broke out, we were blessed by our most successful development dinner ever which netted almost $40,000! Inspired by this response, one of our most generous donors contributed an additional $50,000 for a total of a little shy of $90,000! On top of that, we had already lauched our Jog-a-Thon fundraiser and raised over $10,000 in business sponsorships! Thanks be to God for all of this, because as it looks, we were certainly need this to whether the current health crisis and all its economic repurcussions.

Given the difficult economic times many in our community are now facing, I would like to ask each family to consider e-mailing the name of the business/businessses that employ them to Maria at office@kolbetrinity.org so that we can all do our best ot patronize these businesses. I would like to post them in next week’s memo.

Updated Online Schedules!

Updated online schedules for grades 5-12 were sent home via e-mail. Please join our entire school community for the Rosary M-F @ 1:00 P.M. to invoke Our Lady’s intercession for protection against COVID-19.

Upcoming Community Event

March 29 – May 1 – Consecration to St. Joseph – Home Retreat

Due to the restraints we now have to abide by for "social distancing" until the threat of spreading COVID-19 passes, we will not be meeting for the start of the 33-day preparation program for the "Consecration to St. Josephat St. Thomas Church hall. But we can start it on our own on Sunday, March 29, as it is essentially a do-it-yourself retreat program. Any meetings with others also making it is a bonus and a help in strengthening each other on the journey. We are hoping that the threat of contagion of the virus will pass at some point during the 33-day preparation period to allow us to meet together to pray and share our insights from the inspiring material in Fr. Calloway's book.

For those who do begin the program on March 29, we will make the Consecration on May 1, the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. If it is possible to make it as a group, we will let you know.

Drawing on the wealth of the Church's living tradition, Fr. Calloway guides us to entrust ourselves to our spiritual father's loving care. In the midst of a world in crisis and at war with the Church, this richly researched program brings to life the wonders, the spiritual strength, and great love of St. Joseph, who is the Patron of the Universal Church, and known as the "Terror of Demons" because of his spiritual power. Consecration to St. Joseph will strengthen each of us to meet the challenges of the present moment, and help restore order to our Church and world, all through the powerful paternal intercession and care of St. Joseph.

2 more bishops in the USA have declared a "Year of St. Joseph" for their diocese! This is incredible!  Below is the list of bishops and diocese who have declared a Year of St. Joseph so far:

1) Diocese of Charlotte, NC (Most Rev. Peter Jugis)
2) Diocese of Green Bay, WI (Most Rev. David Ricken)
3) Diocese of Lafayette, LA (Most Rev. J. Douglas Deshotel)
4) Diocese of Scranton, PA (Most Rev. Joseph Bambera)
5) Diocese of Ogdensburg, NY (Most Rev. Terry LaValley)

Prayer Requests

Please make time every day @ 1:00 P.M. PDT to pray the Rosary for Our Lady’s intercession against the COVID-19 pandemic.  Please pray for former Kolbe Academy student (and my classmate) Michael Arribage who is currently battling stage-4 kidney cancer and don’t forget to remember John Carr who is hoping and praying for a full recovery from cancer.
