St. Barnabas, Apostle & Martyr

Pentecost Tuesday (Traditional Calendar)

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

I forgot to thank Yul Vieyra and his crew for power- washing the building before graduation on Jun. 1. Thank you and sorry!

Watch your mailboxes for your summer packet, coming early next week at the latest. In it you will find third trimester report cards, third trimester honor roll certificates (if applicable), recommended summer reading lists and 5-12 required reading assignments, the first draft of our 2019-2020 school calendar, a supply list, uniform requirements, and probably other things I’m forgetting at this point…J

I am pleased to announce that we have hired two new employeesKara Gittings as Athletic Director/P.E. Teacher and Hannah Puncer as our new 5-6 religion, 6th grade math, 7-8 literature and 7-8 English grammar teacher. Many of you know Kara Gittings as our high school volleyball coach, a position which she will continue to fill, along with being our new athletic director and P.E. teacher for grades K-10. Hannah Puncer hails from Bakersfield, CA and is a recent graduate of Christendom College in Virginia. I am very pleased to have them on board for the 2019-2020 academic year.

We had a great turnout for our parents’ guild meeting last Tuesday. In attendance were Maria Cuevas, Sophia Castańeda, Maureen Rowles, Sal Balderas and Sonia Campos-Balderas, Melissa Buyarksi, Maureen Rowles, Mary Quinn, Adriana Mautner, and (via phone) Andrea Rodriguez. We are looking to fill the offices of president, vice-president, and secretary. If you are interested, please contact me. Thank you to Sophia Castańeda for once again volunteering to handle the treasury department!

Thank you to Brendan and Colleen Roche for hosing our faculty and staff end-of-the-year luncheon at the Roche winery in Sonoma. We had a wonderful lunch complete with Roche winery products. Thank you to outgoing parents’ guild president Susanne Madigan-Heun for arranging all of the details!

Thank you to board member, Eric Muth, for chairing last night’s fundraising meeting. In attendance were Brigitte Wilson, Sal Balderas and Sonia Campos-Balderas, Bob and Mary Quinn, Sophia Castańeda, Cindy Mudge, Kara Gittings, and Jay Hipolito. We planned tentative dates for our three biggest planned fundraisers and discussed other ways to bring much-needed money into the school. Thank you all for your time and input!
