September 11, 2018

Tuesday of the 23nd Week in Ordinary Time

From the Headmaster, John Bertolini

Hard to believe, but it’s been 17 years since the horrendous 9/11 attacks in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. This morning, Mass was offered by our chaplain, Fr. Gary Sumpter, for the thousands of individuals who lost their lives on that day. If you can carve out some time today to pray for their peaceful repose, I’m sure Our Lord and his Blessed Mother would be most grateful.

Thank you to Sonia Campos-Balderas and her husband, Salvador, for cooking and serving hot lunch last Wednesday. Our first parent guild meeting of the year also took place on Wednesday evening. Thank you to Melissa Buyarski, Maureen Rowles, Jenny Alba, Angelica Rowles, Mary Quinn, Fred Silva, Lowell Stalbaum, Joan Andrego, Sonia Campos-Balderas, and Ernesto Martinez for attending! We hope to select officers at our next meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd.

A big thank you also to Carole & Jack Duncan, Angelica Rowles, Glynna Decicco, Joan Andrego, & Zaza Fetterly for spending last Thursday and Friday stuffing envelopes for the first wave of our annual appeal last Thursday and Friday in which we hope to raise $75,000 by October. Please pray for the success of this crucial mailing.

It was great seeing the Woodwards, Says, Michelle Friedlander, the Healeys, Huss’, and Joan Andrego at St. Thomas Aquinas Church last Friday @ noon for FirstFriday Mass. We hope that more families and students can join us for our next First Friday school Mass on Friday, Oct. 5th @ 12:00 P.M. at St. Thomas.

Upcoming Events

Picture Day – Sep. 12th

Picture Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, Sep. 12th. Your children were given important information to take home to give to you so please be sure that you fill it out and return it tomorrow. A gentle reminder that all students should have their school sweater, belt (boys only) and should be well-groomed.

Sep. 14th – Movie Night! – Throne of Blood @ 7:00 P.M.

Please join me, some 11-12 grade students, and hopefully many other members of the Kolbe-Trinity family this Friday night for what we hope to be a first in a monthly series of Friday night movies. We will be screening Japanese director Akira Kurosawa’s 1957 film Throne of Blood, which sets the story of Shakespeare’sMacbeth in 16th-century feudal Japan. Popcorn, soda, and beer (for those who are of age, of course) will be provided free of charge. Donations, however, will be gratefully accepted.

Help Needed with Hot Lunch

On Wednesday, Sep. 19th, the high school student government will be serving hot lunch to grades 7-12, but they will need help from parent volunteers to help cook and serve the hot lunch for grades TK-6 from 10:30 -12:00. If you can assist, please contact Maria in the office. Thanks!

Absence/Tardy Procedure

If your child is going to be absent or tardy (more than 15 minutes), please inform Maria in the office ASAP so that we are in the loop, particularly in the event of an emergency.
