St. Dominic, Priest

St. John Mary Vianney, Confessor (Traditional Calendar)

Two weeks and one day to go!  As I said last week, be sure to check your mailbox late this week for an important Back-to-School letter from the office. It will contain important information that will enable your children and adolescents to come to school prepared on the first day, Wednesday, August 23rd, as well as inform the parents about some minor changes for the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year. More information will be forthcoming at the Back-to-School Night meeting scheduled for Friday, August 25th.

If any of you have time during the week or upcoming weekends to help with repair or maintenance projects around the school before our August Saturday workday on August 19th, I have attached an updated maintenance list to this memo. Feel free to drop by any time during business hours, Mon-Thurs 9:00 – 3:00. Please call the office only if you want to schedule a task outside of office hours.

Speaking of maintenance and repair, a big thank you to Paul Woodward for changing out two old ballasts in the Fellowship Hall to give us some much-needed additional lighting. Thanks also to his daughter, Catherine Woodward, for babysitting her younger brother, John Paul, so that dad could do his work! Ongoing thanks to Dennis Healey for his continued work on remedying the dry-rot situation in front of the 5/6 classroom, and to Rod Thoits for taking time out of his workday to give us his professional advice.

Since the school office will be closed next Tuesday in observance of the Assumption of Our Lady, a Holy Day of Obligation, next week’s Tuesday Memo will be sent next Monday, August 14th, the feast of our patron, St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Upcoming School Events!

JUST ADDED!

August 17 – Wyoming Catholic College/Kolbe Trinity Event @ the Smith Ranch – 6:30 P.M.

In conjunction with Wyoming Catholic College, Kolbe-Trinity is pleased to present a wine-and-cheese reception followed by a short lecture delivered by Dr. Jason Baxter, Professor of Fine Arts & Humanities at Wyoming Catholic College entitled: “Globalism, Technology, and Poetry: Can the Humanities Contribute Anything to the Modern World?” The event will be held at the Smith Ranch, 5390 Washington St. on Thursday evening, August 17th. Reception will begin at 6:30 P.M. followed by the lecture at 7:00 P.M. There will be no charge for this event, but donations will be gratefully accepted. See the attached flyer for more information.

August 19 (SA) – August Saturday Workday – 8:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. – Final Uniform Swap – 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.

Hopefully you have all marked your calendars for Saturday, August 19th, the most important of all our monthly Saturday workdays. Since we do not have a paid maintenance department, we rely on help from our parents (and students) to assist Mr. Duncan and myself to help make this campus a safe, functional, and attractive campus. August’s Saturday workday is the most important of all since it represents our last big chance to get the school up and ready for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 23rd. Coffee, donuts, and water will be provided and we will begin promptly at 8:00 A.M. and end at 2:00 P.M.  It will also be the last chance to partake in our uniform swap in the Hall from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 the same morning.

JUST ADDED!

Sep. 9 (SAT) – School Yard/Rummage Sale (Time TBD)

Clear out your homes, storage areas, closets, and garages! We’ll be hosting a yard/rummage sale at the school on Saturday morning, Sep. 9th, until the early afternoon. So get the date on your calendar and contact Melissa Buyarksi if you have any questions! More details will be forthcoming in future Tuesday Memos.

News and Updates

Devotional Single Kneelers Available

Due to our lack of space, we are giving away five of our single devotional kneelers that have been sitting in storage. If you would like one for your home, please contact Emily in the office by Thursday, August 17th. Pictures are included and attached to this memo.

New Uniforms for High School

If you have enrolled your student in high school for the upcoming year, you should have received a letter last week detailing some changes to the uniform. If you have not received it, please contact Emily in the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Aftercare Program for the 2017-2018 School Year

Since there is enough interest from our families, we will be offering aftercare for the 2017-2018 academic year beginning the first day of school, Wednesday August 23rd.  Aftercare will be offered from 3:30 – 5:30 on full days for a cost of $12 per day and from 12:00 – 5:30 on half days for $33 a day. You will be billed in at the end of every month. There will be a one-time registration fee of $25 per child, $40 for 2, and $5 for each additional child due upon sign-up. This also means that we will be hiring somebody to take this on. If you are interested, please contact Emily in the office.

Childcare Needed by Matt & Julie McDonald

Our generous benefactors, Matt and Julie McDonald, are looking to expand their network of potential sitters for their child, Avi.  Ideally, they would like to have someone who is responsible, has experience with and is good with kids and who can drive minors.  (If the sitter doesn't have a vehicle, they have one that could be used.)  It would be a plus if the sitter lives relatively close to them.  When Matt and Julie are traveling, they would need a sitter who would be willing to come to their home early in the morning (perhaps around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.) and help Avi get ready for and off to Browns Valley Elementary School.  Avi can arrive at school as early as 7:00 a.m. so the sitter should have no problem getting to school (or to a day job) on time.  In addition, on occasion, they would need the sitter to pick her up from school (around 5:45 p.m.) and hang out with her at home until one of us gets home in the evening (perhaps around 7:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.). If interested please call or text Julie at (415) 250-0894 or e-mail at julie.mcdonald@outlook.com.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for our former neighbor, Joe Phipps, in the front house facing Redwood Rd. He and his family have moved to Arizona to seek treatment for his very aggressive form of stomach cancer. Joe is the owner of Pure Set Construction.

Continue to remember Fr. James Lantsberger  who recently celebrated his 89th birthday and who served as chaplain at the Napa State Hospital for more than four decades, offered Mass at both Kolbe Academy and Kolbe-Trinity when needed beginning in the 1980’s, and more recently offered the Traditional Latin Mass at Holy Family Mission in Rutherford on Sundays up until this past April, is suffering side effects from chemotherapy to treat cancer which have caused him tremendous weakness and have led his being placed in a nursing and rehabilitation center in Oakland. Please pray for his successful recovery, that he can regain his strength and continue to serve the Church.

Please continue to keep Chuck Rowles and his entire extended family in your prayers so that he will be ultimately cured of his stage-4 colon cancer, and that he can return to enjoying a full and active life with his family and friends. Chuck’s son, Chris, has recently posted updates on the websites listed below. Please continue to pray the St. Peregrine Novena found below as well.
