St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop & Doctor of the Church

The Holy Machabees, Martyrs (Traditional Calendar)

Hard to believe it, but we just started August and before you know it, school will be up and running.

In last week’s Tuesday Memo, I credited new parent Paul Woodward for replacing a broken ballast in the fellowship hall and beginning the crucial process of steam cleaning the chairs in the fellowship hall and chapel, I neglected to credit his wife, Diana Woodward, for providing Paul with necessary assistance and his daughter, Catherine Woodward, for keeping an eye on the numerous young ones in the TK yard. My apologies for the omission.

I want to personally thank Dennis Healey for spending multiple hours investigating the dry-rot problem in front of the 5/6 modular last week. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you continue to do for this school.

Our final installment in our World War I Film Festival, Paths of Glory, was very lightly attended, but those who came certainly enjoyed themselves. Special kudos to Ken Dumars who attended all three movies. Steve and Janet Perry and Silvio Bertolini also joined us.

Although the Marian Sisters BBQ this past Sunday wasn’t an official Kolbe-Trinity event, it was heavily and staffed and assisted by students, parents, teachers, and staff members from the school. Thank you to all for your assistance and for representing our school so well.

Be sure to check your mailbox in the next week for an important Back-to-School letter from the office. It will contain important information that will enable your children and adolescents to come to school prepared on the first day, Wednesday, August 23rd, as well as inform the parents about some minor changes for the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year. More information will be forthcoming at the Back-to-School Night meeting scheduled for Friday, August 25th.

If any of you have time during the week or upcoming weekends to help with repair or maintenance projects around the school before our August Saturday workday on August 19th, I have attached an updated maintenance list to this memo. Feel free to drop by any time during business hours, Mon-Thurs 9:00 – 3:00. Please call the office only if you want to schedule a task outside of office hours.

There will be an alumni-only mixer from 4:00 – 5:30 P.M. before the back-to-school bbq begins at 5:30 P.M. Please stay tuned to our facebook page and future Tuesday Memos for more details.

News and Updates

New Uniforms for High School

If you have enrolled your student in high school for the upcoming year, you should have received a letter last week detailing some changes to the uniform. If you have not received it, please contact Emily in the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Aftercare Program for the 2017-2018 School Year

Since there is enough interest from our families, we will be offering aftercare for the 2017-2018 academic year beginning the first day of school, Wednesday August 23rd.  Aftercare will be offered from 3:30 – 5:30 on full days for a cost of $12 per day and from 12:00 – 5:30 on half days for $33 a day. You will be billed in at the end of every month. There will be a one-time registration fee of $25 per child, $40 for 2, and $5 for each additional child due upon sign-up. This also means that we will be hiring somebody to take this on. If you are interested, please contact Emily in the office.

Childcare Needed by Matt & Julie McDonald

Our generous benefactors, Matt and Julie McDonald, are looking to expand their network of potential sitters for their child, Avi.  Ideally, they would like to have someone who is responsible, has experience with and is good with kids and who can drive minors.  (If the sitter doesn't have a vehicle, they have one that could be used.)  It would be a plus if the sitter lives relatively close to them.  When Matt and Julie are traveling, they would need a sitter who would be willing to come to their home early in the morning (perhaps around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.) and help Avi get ready for and off to Browns Valley Elementary School.  Avi can arrive at school as early as 7:00 a.m. so the sitter should have no problem getting to school (or to a day job) on time.  In addition, on occasion, they would need the sitter to pick her up from school (around 5:45 p.m.) and hang out with her at home until one of us gets home in the evening (perhaps around 7:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.). If interested please call or text Julie at (415) 250-0894 or e-mail at julie.mcdonald@outlook.com.

French Foreign Exchange Opportunity (SEE ATTACHMENT)

An orthodox Catholic French family, the Johanets, are interested in having their 16-yeard old son, Hippolyte, live with a good Catholic American family with a high-school age son for one month followed by a visit of their son to France to spend one month with Hippolyte and the Johanet family. Please see the attached flyer for more details on this unique opportunity.

Prayer Requests

On behalf of the Whalen and extended Cooper families, I want to thank you for your prayers Hilary Whalen (Cooper), Trinity Prep graduate, who suffered a seizure and stroke while recovering from the birth of her son, Jack. She is home from the hospital and her prognosis for a full recovery is excellent. Please continue to keep Hilary and her extended family in your prayers.

Please also pray for our former neighbor, Joe Phipps, in the front house facing Redwood Rd. He and his family have moved to Arizona to seek treatment for his very aggressive form of stomach cancer. Joe is the owner of Pure Set Construction. As I mentioned last week,  I spoke with Joe’s friend today who has put the front house up for sale and he was grateful for our prayers and ask that we continue to do so.

Continue to remember Fr. James Lantsberger  who recently celebrated his 89th birthday and who served as chaplain at the Napa State Hospital for more than four decades, offered Mass at both Kolbe Academy and Kolbe-Trinity when needed beginning in the 1980’s, and more recently offered the Traditional Latin Mass at Holy Family Mission in Rutherford on Sundays up until this past April, is suffering side effects from chemotherapy to treat cancer which have caused him tremendous weakness and have led his being placed in a nursing and rehabilitation center in Oakland. Please pray for his successful recovery, that he can regain his strength and continue to serve the Church.

Please continue to keep Chuck Rowles and his entire extended family in your prayers so that he will be ultimately cured of his stage-4 colon cancer, and that he can return to enjoying a full and active life with his family and friends. Please see the message below from Chuck’s eldest son, Chris.

Please pray for us; masses, novenas and prayers of support are what we really need now as we are still discovering what treatment options are available to him at this time.

Donations are also welcome. All proceeds will help to offset Mary and Chuck’s recent trip to Houston. Thank you everyone for your support and let’s pray that God intercedes for us.
